MOUTHGUARDS

Protect Your Teeth with Custom Mouthguards

If you are experiencing chronic pain or discomfort in your jaw, you may be unsure of what you can do. Pain from your temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, can be caused primarily from teeth grinding at night, also known as bruxism. The condition is prevalent, but many patients do not even know they have a problem until they wake up with pain in their jaw joint, headaches and migraines, and other facial muscle pain.

TMJ pain can be caused by a number of factors, although the exact cause is unknown. Dentists do know that too much stress on the jaw joint can lead to inflammation and pain. Depending on the severity of your teeth grinding condition, your jaw joint may hurt slightly or severely. Factors such as arthritis and trauma to the jaw can also contribute to your pain.

Stop TMJ Pain with a Mouthguard

If you are experiencing pain from your TMJ, you may also have a headache that accompanies the pain. Not only is the headache persistent and annoying, you may not find relief from it until the joint pain in your jaw is eliminated.

Dr. Miller is committed to providing you with the custom mouthguards that you can wear at night to prevent bruxism. The mouthguard prevents your upper and lower teeth from touching, allowing you and your jaw to get the relief you need from pain. The mouthguard is designed to be worn whenever you go to bed and can be removed whenever you need to take it out. It is important to wear your mouthguard consistently, although it may take some time to get used to at first.

We also provide bite therapy for TMJ disorder. Dr. Miller will provide you with TMJ pain relief recommendations at your consultation.

Athletic Mouthguards for Your Protection

In addition to mouthguards for bruxism, Dr. Miller provides custom mouthguards for athletic purposes. If you are an athlete, it is important for you to protect your teeth as best as you can. Whether you play soccer, baseball, or football, you risk the chance of your teeth being knocked out if the ball hits you, if you fall, or if another person runs into you.

Trauma to your mouth can cause pain and leave you with missing and fractured teeth throughout your mouth. Although you may think it isn’t possible for a mouth injury to happen to you, it can. In fact, studies show that those wearing mouthguards greatly reduce their risk of all sorts of head traumas and injuries.

Protecting your teeth on the field is important and can be done with a custom athletic mouthguard. Dr. Miller will take an impression of your teeth and then have the mouthguard made. You will find that a custom-fit mouthguard provides more protection than a generic store-bought sports guard as it hugs your teeth in the right places and is made from higher-quality materials.
